Roots and Routs – The River

2025

This project is part of CO-VISION Creative Europe program, with Transylvania Trust as romanian partner.
The exhibition is a collaboration by three visual artists: Szigeti Csongor, Daria Langa and Diana Drăgan-Chirilă. The main theme is the Someș River, the surroundings of the river in the area of Banffy Castle in Bonțida, and how his natural place has evolved over the centuries, during the communist period, influenced both by natural forces and by the effect of destructive human activities.

The third part of the exhibition,The River – is multimedia installation which takes visitors to the riverbank, where an immersive multimedia installation allows them to enter the natural habitat of the riverbank, even going into the water, and see through the eyes of the creatures that live there: birds, frogs, beetles, fish… This work recreates part of the riverbank, from which two screens made of silicone strips are suspended, onto which very slow footage will be projected, taken from the actual natural location, including underwater footage. The sound, as slow as the footage, supports this vision of a unique world. The installation aims to draw attention to the biodiversity of the area and to highlight its ephemeral nature.

Technical description:
The installation consists of four 3-meter-high poles, atop which are mounted two projectors and two screens made of suspended silicone strips, supported by corrugated metal panels, mimicking the line of the Somes Riverbank near Banffy Castle.
Dimensions: 3 x 4 m, the silicone projection screens: 2.5 x 4 m.
